1% Wednesdays – Rethinking the Co-op’s Donations November 1st, 2013

We’ve got a new and exciting way to decide how we donate money to local organizations.  It’s called 1% Wednesday.   Here’s how it’s going to work:

  • Every Wednesday, the Co-op will donate 1% of total sales to a local organization who’s mission is in line with that of the cooperative.  Specifically, these will be organizations concerned with Local Food & Agriculture, Healthful Living, Environmental Sustainability and Community Social and Economic Development.
  • A list of organizations will be provided as part of the Ballot for the Board of Directors election.  Owners will pick their top twelve and the winners will each receive one month of 1% Wednesday Donations.
  • While we did our best to select a fair and appropriate list, we will also allow for a write-in option if owners have other ideas.

We hope you all agree that this idea will be a fun and productive way to help good community organizations do their work in the Berkshires. 1% Wednesday gives Co-op Owners the opportunity to choose where our support is focused and shoppers the ability to participate in the extent of that support.

We assure you that this will not represent our entire donation budget and, if your favorite organization is not listed, it may still may see money from the Co-op.  Furthermore, if a write in organization gets more than five votes, we guarantee that it will be included on the list for next year.

Owners can vote at Annual Meeting on November 9th or fill out an absentee ballot at the Co-op Any time between now and 8:00 pm on November 8th.
