COMMUNITY DONATIONS AT THE CO-OP
Berkshire Co-op Market is pleased to be able to offer small financial and in-kind donations to a variety of local community groups. Most of our support is provided in the form of Co-op Community or Gift Cards, generally in amounts not to exceed $25, which can be used to purchase goods from the Co-op or as door prizes or fundraising auction items. Occasionally we are able to fill requests for donated products or other items.

Due to the amount of requests we receive on a regular basis, we advise you to apply at least four weeks in advance of need/event, whenever possible. Priority is given to local community organizations and events which:

  • Support the mission and values of Berkshire Co-op
  • Serve the local community
  • Provide food or other basic human needs to those in need
  • Support ecological sustainability
  • Promote physical community sustainability and health
  • Empower marginalized community members
  • Support cultural or environmental competency
  • Actively promote community arts or alternative expression

    Further, the organization must:

  • Be non-profit and non-partisan (ask about other opportunities for community organizations which are not non-profit)
  • Not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, sex, national origin, age, sexual orientation, or physical disability

To request a donation, please fill out a Donation Request Form below, or stop in to fill one out at the store.

The Co-op’s donations are intended for organizations, not individuals. If you have questions about your donation, please contact Jennifer Foley, Marketing & Communications Manager, at 413-528-9697, or marketing@berkshire.coop.

    Corporate Ownership and Natural Food

Who owns the natural food industry?

The organic industry represents the fastest growing segment of U.S. agriculture, expanding at a red-hot 20% for eight years running, with no ceiling in sight. It should be noted that not all organic consolidation has been bad.

Organic Valley, for instance, is farmer owned and operated - a great success story for a co-op of seven farmers who began their operation in 1988. They now cooperate with over 500 organic farms across the country.
